In a word, no. Don’t worry, I’ll elaborate. Purgatory was invented by men to do one thing: increase money to the church. If you donate enough money, your stay in purgatory will be less than if you didn’t. This is another power taken away from God by some and put into the hands of men. Always when men take powers away from God, they invent something that is not written anywhere in the Bible.

There is no evidence of a purgatory in the Bible, and I’ve looked. Those that came up with purgatory claim it’s to purify souls before reaching heaven. The soul has no need of purification because the life is over. What a person has done in this life is over. Whether that soul is worthy of heaven, everlasting life, or punishment is up to One. Nobody else. Either way, once the soul has been loosened from this human prison it goes straight to the Maker. From there God chooses whether that soul goes with Him or not. There is no pit stop on its way.

One should ask themselves if a person makes the right choice and lives their lives honorably why God would make them suffer through something called “purgatory”. If there is a purgatory, then why isn’t it written? Are you going to believe the Bible, or someone that came up with something on their own? You be the judge.

Paul said to be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord. Does that sound like there is a stop at something at purgatory? On the rare occasion when someone dies and are brought back to life, the common thing seen is a tunnel of white light. If you imagine yourself travelling through space with stars, galaxies, and other heavenly objects flying by you many times the speed of light, what would you be seeing? A tunnel of white light. Does that sound like there is a purgatory?

Men do such wicked things in the eyes of God by inventing things of God that do not exist for the sake of their own cause. This is the silliest and least biblical example possible. I dare any theologian, priest, cardinal, pope to find me biblical evidence of purgatory. They can’t do it because it doesn’t exist. Men should be careful about inventing things to take power away from God and putting power into their own hands on such matters because God just may invent some things right back of His own. This is one of those things that angers me personally. I find it insulting when men invent things of God with no backing from God’s word. I issue a challenge to those that believe in purgatory. Find me biblical evidence. Not logic of why there might or should be a purgatory. Not who came up with it. Not it’s purpose. Find me biblical evidence of it. There is no such thing as purgatory. Take that to the bank.

Maybe I can clarify Purgatory for you. Go and get your Bible and go to 1Corinthians 3:12 and read on to verse 15. It is speaking here regarding the “refinement of one by fire.” A “purification” so to speak. In verse 15 it says, “One will suffer loss” this is Purgatory. What the Church did was give to it the name “Purgatory” as to where verse 12 through 15 takes place. Even though you do not see the name “Purgatory” there it does not mean the “event” in itself is not there.

Like the “Protestants” use the word “Rapture.” The Word “Rapture” is not in the Bible but it does not mean the “event” is not there. The word Rapture came to play sometimes in the 1800’s by a Pastor who gave us this name, and he and his Church went and dressed up and set on benches outside and waited on Jesus to come.

The same with “Trinity.” The Catholic Church gave to us that belief and I assume you believe that God is one God in Three Divine Persons. But nowhere in the Bible does it ever state the word “Trinity.”

I know these things because I am a Convert to the Catholic Church and was Protestant many years. Protestants have their sayings also that are not in the Bible and their rituals. They just do not realize they do.

Hope this helps to clarify for you. God Bless, Sandy

Sandy, thanks for the response as well as biblical verses to back up your opinion. The problem with your assertion is the word “fire” there is not a literal term. Proof of that is what Paul wrote being burned. He compared men’s works to that of gold, silver, precious stones, wood, stubble, and hay. Is the work of men literally gold, silver, precious stones, wood, stubble, and hay as well? That is not a literal fire, because the work of men isn’t literally gold or wood. That fire is simply judgment, even among those that are saved. If you take the idea of purgatory and match that with Paul saying “…to be absent from this body, and to be present with the Lord”, it should show that there is no purgatory.

I don’t believe in the rapture either. Much of the NT is about preparing yourself for the end, so why would God then allow His followers to escape this world when He might need them most? Why would God threaten teachers who teach their flock how to fly, like He did in Ezekiel 13:20?

I don’t belong to any denomination. I go with what Jesus said to Saint John that He was against five of the seven churches. One of those He was against He threatened to remove altogether. The two He finds no fault in don’t exist yet because those churches that were established in Philadelphia and Smyrna weren’t new types of churches. Plus they don’t fit what is written.

God’s judgment negates any need for a purgatory. It’s true some words aren’t mentioned but exist, such as the Trinity. There is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. At least you came with the written Word and challenged me. God bless you as well.

Good morning Jesse and how are you this morning, and God Bless you as well.

The Fire: This was prophesied in Zechariah 13:9 “I will bring the one third through fire, and I will refine them as silver is refined, and I will test them as gold is tested, They shall call upon my name and I will hear them. I will say, “They are my people” and they shall say, “The Lord is my God.” You are correct it is not a literal “fire.” The literal “fire” is hell. But one of the characteristic’s of the Holy Spirt is defined as “fire.” For one example Mt. 3:11 He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.” Of course this happened on the Day of Pentecost. You are correct our work’s or not gold and silver etc… But as Zechariah says, “we will be refined as such, and it will be through the “refinement fire of the Holy Spirit.” In the Corinthian verses I gave to you in previous post you will see it is also this same “fire” that will reveal our works. So we believe as prophesied in Zechariah these are the “Holy Souls in Purgatory.” God said, “He will call them His people and they will call Him their Lord.”

To be abesent from the body is to be present in the Lord: Purgatory is not a speration from God, only hell is. Hell is total loss of God. Now if you will go to 1 Cor. 15:29 you will see people being baptized for the “dead.” You will also note Paul did not say this was “wrong.” What these baptisims were administered for was to free the dead from their sins. When you read this remember if they are in hell there is no need for this, as judgment as been pronounced by God. There is no forgiveness after a soul is in hell. If they are in heaven of course there is no more pain and suffering and have already been forgiven, so where are these dead at that are being baptized for? Purgatory. We believe this is because when we die and we do not get a chance so to speak to repent for our sins we die with sin upon us, and no one can go into the sight of God with sin upon them. I am not trying to push this belief on you at all, all I am trying to do is explain as to why we believe like we do.

The Seven Churches: As far as these they were in Turkey. They are gone, Jesus took them out. The last time I read unless it has changed which has been awhile back, you have to have special permission by the government to have a Mass. These Churches even though there were seven, were Catholic Churches. Turkey is mostly Muslim now.

As far as the Ezekiel Scripture you gave to me, God is removing here His people here from the hands of false prophets and Sorcery. True God does need us on this earth to teach and spread the Word, lead others to Christ etc… This is my personal view of Revelations and let us face it, that book is up for grabs:>)
I believe many parts of Revelations has already been here and gone. When they are talking about this “horrible end” we will endure, I believe this is the persection of the early Christians in Rome, who had to go under ground to worship God. The Romans at that time believe they were cannibals because of the Eucharist, receiving the Body and Blood of Jesus, and when the Romans heard this, they gave the early Christians the name of cannibals. Therefore this gave them the right to persecute and kill them. The Apostles thought Jesus was coming back really quick and waited for this all the time. Of course we know that is not the case. Do I believe Jesus is coming back? Yes I do, as He said, “He would return.” As far as all of this hell, fire and awful things that are going to happen to us, I believe that is Rome John is referring to and he had to write Revlations as such as the early Christians knew what these symbols meant and could not risk writing it in let’s say plain “English” for fear of the Roman Empire.

So this is just my response to some of your comments. Have enjoyed visiting with you. God Bless, Sandy

  4. Jesse Norman II says:

Again, that fire is not a literal one because it’s referring to gold silver. When men do good or bad works, they do not get gold or stubble and see it burn when their lives are over.

Fire is just a way of saying “judgment”. The judgment of the Holy Spirit will show how good your works have been. The Holy Spirit is our connection to God, therefore it’s what will be His evidence against and for us. Fire is simply judgment.

I do not believe many works of Revelation is here and gone. What works are you referring to? John actually wrote the book pretty clearly. You just have to look back to the original languages of Hebrew and Greek to recognize all he did was make a more concise version of what has already been written.

    You’re welcome anytime. God bless.

  5. Sandy says:

    Good morning Jesse,

I agree with you regarding the fire of the Holy Spirit is not literal and am sorry I did not make that clear.

As far as the “works” in Revelations, I said “parts” of Revelation and what I meant by that is I believe a lot of the Scriptures in Revelations is speaking about the persecution of the early Christians in Rome. I am not saying I am correct that is how I take it. Like the antichrist will seem to be dead for three days and rise again. This is what Nero did. He stabbed himself in the neck and claimed to be dead for three days and rose again. (just for an example) Like I said to me Revelations is up for grabs. I think if anyone can get a true perspective on the book they have done well:>)

You also are welcome on my blog anytime though you would probably disagree with much.

Have a great day and God Bless, Sandy

  6. Jesse Norman II says:

I’ll definitely check it out. There will be a difference between the Antichrist human being than what “rises” three days later. In the future, Satan will be kicked down onto Earth having great wrath. That will happen after the Antichrist dies. Look at two of the horsemen of the Apocalypse. The first one was the rider of a white horse. He went forth to conquer peacefully, hence the white horse. The rider of the pale horse is named Death and Hell follows him. Satan is named Death, and Hell will follow him when he comes to Earth and opens the bottomless pit.

Actually I just finished late last night a blog where I talk about the hardest chapter to understand in the Bible, and it’s not inside Revelation. It’s Romans 11. Revelation is a more concise version of what the prophets of the OT wrote. Read Jeremiah 50-51, Isaiah 47-48 and see how it corrolates with Rev. 17-18. The last chapters of Revelation go with Ezekiel 40-48. I’ll give a couple of links to other blogs I wrote about this.

  7. Sandy says:

    Hey Jesse,

I will surely check out Romans 11, your new post, and the other Scriptures in which you gave to me. You are correct also regarding Nero did not truly die. It will be later probably tomorrow as I have to go to doctor today. Nothing serious but prayers would be appreciated.

    Thanks also for the links.

Thanks again for it all. God Bless, Sandy

  8. Sandy says:

    Hey Jesse,

Have a problem with one of your statements and need a little clarification as I might be not taking it in the text which you meant it. “Satan will be kicked down to earth in the future having great wrath?”

I do not know what you mean by that. I will go ahead and comment but if you meant something different then my comment I apologize and please feel free to let me know I took it wrong.

We know Satan was in the garden of Eden. Also in the book of Job when God asked the devil where he had come from he said, “From roaming the earth and patrolling it.” We also know he was on earth at the Temptation of Christ. And also when he was looking for the “bones of Moses.”

Due to these Scriptures my belief in the Scripture in Revelations is, “Satan has already been kicked out of heaven, and is here on earth now tempting us and trying to lead us into sin. You might have seen something in Revelation Scripture I have missed and if so, please feel free to show it to me.

We do agree on he was an Angel up in heaven but through his pride God kicked him out of heaven by St. Michael the Angel.

Like I said I might have taken that statement wrong and am a little confused what you meant. If I am wrong please disregard comment.

Am a little tired tonight due to doctor’s visit and getting a new puppy, but if you need Scripture reference for what I gave you please ask and I will be happy to give tomorrow. Am going to bed with Romans 11 and seeing what you mean with it all. I am sure I will find it as fascinating as you. Thank you, Sandy

  9. Jesse Norman II says:

It is true that Satan was with Adam, and you’ve done well in knowing that Satan was in the garden of Eden, as is explained in Revelation 20:2. The difference between then and now is Satan was able to come to Earth back then. In the future he will be forced here. Remember the locusts are the fallen angels. Their master is Apollyon, which is the Devil. They will have power to torment men for five months, not with violence but pressuring those to make the wrong choice by exploiting the weaknesses of men. The plague of Satan coming to Earth is the rider of the pale horse.

Hope your appointment goes fine and enjoy your new puppy. God bless you too, Sandy.
